France // New restrictions on travels from the UK

France has announced restrictive entry measures applicable to travelers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These measures went live on May 31, 2021 and echo the recent UK restrictions on travels from France.

,

Until now, the United Kingdom was one of the countries with which travel could be performed for any reason, including tourism. From now on, the compelling reasons regime applies. Entry into France will therefore only be authorized if entry is justified by one of the 13 reasons listed on the travel certificate available here.

,

The corporate mobility of workers is impacted by this as holders of Passeport Talent visas and their families are now the only ones allowed to enter (except of course if they settled in France before the entry into force of these restrictions).

,

It is therefore to be expected that the French consulate in the United Kingdom will temporarily stop issuing “Salarié détaché ICT” or “Salarié” visas to British nationals about to settle in France.

,

In addition, the negative PCR or antigenic test presented at the border must now be less than 48 hours, instead of 72 hours. Travelers under 11 are exempted from this requirement. The sworn statement of absence of symptoms is still required.

,

Finally, a 7-day voluntary quarantine will be required upon arrival in France. At this stage, the UK is not on the list of 16 countries for which a mandatory 10-day quarantine is in place, but the authorities may revise their position as the situation evolves.

,

All official provisions and certificate templates remain available on the Government’s dedicated page.
