Back in 2020 and to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the country, Vietnamese authorities implemented the requirement for an entry permit for all foreigners, including foreign residents in Vietnam holding a valid residence permit.
.
This resulted in long and heavy processes and constituted a major obstacle for foreign residents willing to travel outside Vietnam. One needed to prepare a set of documents such as official approval from the authorities, PCR results, and insurance for quarantine to obtain the entry(-back) permit.
.
Authorities announced on 18 January 2022 that this requirement will now be waived for foreigners, overseas Vietnamese and their relatives holding a permanent resident card, temporary residence card, visa or visa exemption certificate.
.
Travellers not falling in the above categories, such as tourists or business travellers, will still need to obtain an entry permit to land in Vietnam.
