USA // Travel restrictions imposed

Effective Date: June 9, 2025

 

President Trump has issued a proclamation imposing visa and travel restrictions on nationals from 19 countries, effective June 9, 2025. These restrictions apply specifically to nationals who are outside the United States on that date and do not possess a valid visa.

 

Nationality-Based Restrictions

 

Full Visa Suspension: The following countries face a suspension of both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas:

  • Afghanistan
  • Chad
  • Republic of Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Eritrea
  • Haiti
  • Iran
  • Libya
  • Myanmar
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Yemen

Partial Visa Suspension: For nationals of the following countries, the proclamation suspends immigrant visas and specific nonimmigrant visas (B-1, B-2, F, M, and J classifications):

  • Burundi
  • Cuba
  • Laos
  • Sierra Leone
  • Togo
  • Turkmenistan
  • Venezuela

Additionally, the Secretary of State is tasked with reviewing Egypt to determine if travel restrictions should be applied to Egyptian nationals.

 

Exemptions

 

The travel restrictions include certain exemptions, notably for immediate family members of U.S. citizens, recipients of the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa, and those eligible for a national interest waiver. Additionally, individuals with valid visas or green cards are not subject to the ban.
