USA // National Interest Exception categories limited for European travelers

US authorities recently rescinded National Interest Exception (NIE) categories for travelers from the Schengen Area, U.K., and Ireland.

ff

NIE is the Covid-19 specific authorization to enter the US and previously covered categories such as technical expert and specialists or senior-level managers and executives. It has now been limited as the only National Interest Exceptions remaining are for those travelers seeking to provide vital support for critical infrastructure and travelers seeking to enter the United States for purposes related to humanitarian travel, public health response, and national security.

ff

This reflects European position towards third-countries, including the USA, tending to limit the exceptions to those travelers able to help fight the virus.
